… Argy Bargy with Last Seen Laughing – a great show!

Another Hard and Smart Oi! show at the Indra (the place the Beatles played first when they came to Hamburg) and with Argy Bargy it had a real headliner i was looking for (because they have some great records out).

Last Seen Laughing (Hamburg, Indra, 03.05.2014 (c) gehkacken.de)

First on where Last Seen Laughing, they hail from Denmark and they play a rather simple sort of Streetpunk/Oi! – not bad, not extraordinary but with loads of energy and some fun too. As ever with support bands, they had to warm up the audience but did not really fully connect. To a certain extend not their fault, but hey, that’s the endeveaours of the support stint, ain’t it? See yerself:

Next on and much awaited Argy Bargy. And from the Intro on you knew this was up for some serious fun and some real driving hardcore Oi!:

Loads of energy, loads of good songs with actualy diverse styles – they know they punk history and roots and they can play up to it. And they have the backline to produce a great sound and they have a singer who can push the audience. And the people finally got moving!

I’d say “hit by hit”, allthough they did resort to covering Cock Sparrer and Sham 69, which was great sing-a-long stuff for sure but actualy not needed: their own songs have enough power! So here are two more – sing along!

    here’s one

Another worthy night at the Indra with a small but neat show. Next on at the Indra are Giuda from Italy, i am looking forward to see these retro-Glam-Slade-Punk-Italian-something-special!!!

  • … Oi! Now that is a show…an awesome one indeed!

… Oi! Now that is a show…an awesome one indeed!

Now that is friday as neat as a friday could be: Fended off working all week in London and returned early on wednesday, finished early in home office on friday and off to the pub accross the street from the home ground. got to see a manic 2:2 (incl. lead and comeback) and hurried myself after the final whistle over to the Indra.

First on where On The Job from Karslkrona (that’s in beautiful southern Sweden) and they did their best to entertain an audience that clearly was out there to see Bishops Green, rather.

As such it was rather quiet during their set, only their own Karlskrona Bootboys made some noise…

But sometimes Chris was all alone out there on the front it felt.

And how does that sound? Listen up, Skinhead!

Next on Bishops Green, their records clearly got people enthusiastic and all geared up for the show, you could sense people deeply wanting them to be live as exiting as on vinyl.

And they kicked off taking no prisoners and being a great and tight 4 piece band and from the inital setting had all the street credibility posers never can obtain.

Was the crowd somehow reserved vs. our sevenska vänner it got fully erected upon Bishops Green…in the literal and visual sense…

They just have this little extra, the musically gifted and tight the back line provides the perfect backdrop for Greg Huff, who is a funny mix of a shy and nimble full frontal force singer bathing in the audience. Cool. Loved their show.

And hell, what an unpretentious stage entry! See and listen yerself!

Sex Pistols Experience (Indra, Hamburg, 07.02.2014)

Flashback 14.01.1978 – the Sex Pistols grace the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco and Mr. Rottern snears his famous “… ever got the feeling you’ve been cheated” to end not only the US of A tour of the Pistols but also the Pistols as such. Now zoom over to Hamburg where quite a lot of young kids that got hooked on Punk all stored a precious treasure at home: A ticket for the Sex Pistols show at the Markthalle in Hamburg – finally the prime punk band (at least according to the local german pop magazins) make it to Hamburg! Little did they know in the pre-internet days that it’ll be a “no show”…

    Sex Pistols (Hamburg, Markthalle, 24.01.1978)
    Sex Pistols (Hamburg, Markthalle, 24.01.1978)

Hop into your time machine now and move 13163 days fast forward – the oldpunks in Hamburg finaly get their chance to see a Pistols set (ok, those who make the yearly pilgrimage to Blackpool had a chance already plus those who travelled to London to see Rotten/Cook/Jones/Matlock on stage in 2007). But it ain’t the old farts, it is a travelling circus type of tribute/cover band. In any other case this would make me avoid the show like the plague but this lot has it. Has it realy. A young Sid mockup. A young Rotten lookalike with the same voice and the same starry eyes. A Steve Jones who looks like my old boss in London (and my boss was called by the name of … David C Jones!). And a handsome Cook on drums. And boy do they make a show! The packed Indra was completly taken away and i am sure a lot of wet dreams came true!

But see yourself and listen up:

    Satelite!

    Liar!

    EMI!

    God save the Queen!

Stunning! For some more pictures see below…

Some people found it rather odd that you get a 1:1 / chord-by-chord / snear-by-snear / look-by-look copy but take it as “our” ABBA musickal…

    Side remark:
Allthough the Pistols came to an end back there on the stage of the Winterland Ballroom greedy promoters sure tried to cash in on them and put them on the poster for the first “big” punk festival in Hamburg. More pictures from that event over at punkfoto.de!
