… thanks for trying to have fun in Hamburg after being robbed in Rostock!

They completely blasted the Indra in March, now Bishops Green where back in Germany for a quick Summer Tour. Bad luck for Hamburg they not only had to play the Logo (not really a good place for these types of shows) but they had to play it after getting their tour banner stolen in Rostock the day before. Throughout the show i had the feeling they where really pissed and part of blame was handed to those at hand, at the Logo.

First on where Bolanow Brawl from Hamburg, they feature under “Street Punk” and what shall i say … they have lots of things right but still sound like a copy cat. Sorry, was not what would get me going.

Next Bishops Green and mmh. I did not feel the same energy in the room, neither from the band nor from the audience – in a positive spirit i’d say it was due to the heat that had it’s grasp on Hamburg. And if you know the Logo then you know that this little shed of a club sucks up heat like salt moisture. Also the place turned out to be oversized for Bishops Green that night, i’d say max 120 people where there.

They rushed through their set, spend little time with the audience and finished in time. As such not that warm and cozy feeling that i was looking for. But hey, touring is hard and if you get robbed by a naughty fucker than i will not complain that next day as a band you do not perform at the top. Anyway, for me it was ok and i still like their look, stance and music. So thank you for keeping the faith!

Now see and listen up – they blasted off with “Another Door” whilst most people where still outside seeking “fresh” air…

… these NJ kids have style indeed!

Puh, it is summer in the city and the city was full of people that wanted to see the Hamburg Cruise Days and the cool blue light installations at the Hamburg Harbor. And the Hafenklang being on the harbor front gave yet again a nice mix of punks hanging out outside the Hafenklang and tourists trying to avoid them. Fun. As ever. Upstairs at Goldener Salon it started with Irish Handcufs from Regensburg and it took me only one song to dislike them as lutscher-core (and indeed i am not nice here but i was up for something different tonight!).

I rather enjoyed lengthy talks about music and life as such outside. Next on No Weather Talks from Hamburg and i disliked their pop even more then the lutscher-core (though they had a female singer, something i normaly dig).

Now for sure only the Night Birds could rescue this hot evening and boy they did! From start to finish they rocked the approx 120 people upstairs at the Goldener Salon and did not leave any questions.

This is how i – in all selflessness – want it to happen: A cool drummer with a Slade T-Shirt. A Bass player that rocked his Bass. A guitar player that knows his surf. And an enigmatic singer with all signs of crazyness. Cool shit, played hot as hell. See yourself and listen up how they started the show:

And the best was yet to come: Mid set the bass broke down and whilst the technical error was researched the drums and the guitar went into a familiar tune … “Shadowy Men from A Shadowy Planet“, the signature song from the CAN comedy series “Kids in the hall” (dating back to 1988). Now that was fucking super cool. I talked to the guitar player after the show and he was very surprised that someone not only did recognise the song but also knew the TV Show. I guess that comes with age and being over 50 plays into it. I told him to put more of that into their set, let’s see what they do!

But hey, really, if the Night Birds continue down that path of mixing California Hardcore with Surf, throw a blend of DI and JFA in, then i will buy all of their records. They are a real force and a true gem. Thanks for a great show guys!

… keine Veränderung zur letzten Saison!

Home, sweet home…

Oh Oh, das 1:1 gegen Ingoldstadt hat bei mir und meinen Mitsitzern auf der GG etliche Fragen offen gelassen…aber eine Antwort hatten alle: Es hat sich nichts zur letzten Saison geändert. Wirklich nicht? Naja, zumindest hat der Kollege Tschauner einen Rückfall in alte Zeiten – keines seiner Abspiele kam an, ehr landeten sie im aus. Und der Sportkamerad Kall zeigte sich auf der 6 tatsächlich verbessert. Aber sonst? Es fehlt ein Spielmacher und bei 4-4-2 wird die Lücke in der Zentraler hinter den Spitzen nochmal so deutlich. Der Sportkamerad Vrabec hat noch viel vor sich oder die Unken behalten recht: Nach einem schlechten Start ist er der erste Trainer der geht. Ich hoffe nicht. Aber so wie die anderen Teams aufrüstet haben bleibt für uns nur ein Platz 8-12, aber ich lasse mich da zu gerne Lügen strafen. Aber große Hoffnung habe ich nicht, das ich zumindest bessere Heimspiele zu sehen bekomme: Zu sehr quält sich das Team im Spielaufbau und im herausarbeiten von Chancen.

Super dennoch der neue Kapitän und seine Energieleistung und die Choreo der Süd – merci!
