That was a sunny Friday early evening, the city full of “spring” vibes and a home game vs. Union Berlin. Everybody rushed after work to make it and the stadium was a sell-out. That’s exactly how it is supposed to be.

And … nothing. From the start it was a rather dull game – St. Pauli trying the away tactics and defending deep, Union trying to drive for chances but not really getting through. Robin “The Himmelmann” with a 1st class save and Union deflecting a header from Sobiech towards the goal post. The rest was …

… improvised sun protection for those who left sun glasses at home (or rather checking emails than following the game).
What was apparent throughout was a) that we destroyed Unions game midfield with a lot of fouls and Dennis Daube took all the standards (to no avail) and b) that Union always (and that was really always) kept the ball or tossed it away when the magical FCSP wanted to do a quick touch on a free kick. Only once the referee gave a booking – i would have given more.
Nevermind, there where two nice moments: Union brought Benjamin Köhler into the game and home fans gave his recovery from fuckin’ cancer a very friendly applause. A much louder roar though came for our own RYŌ MIYAICHI – both when he was waved back towards the bench to be taken on and when he finally entered the pitch. A lot of happiness (and no impact – hopefully yet) hopefully now giving him a flying re-start.
A rather dull 0:0 and thus i write this not in German as all other accounts of the magical FCSP – i hope this change of language will drive the next home win, i am such an idiotic superstitious footie fan! Forza FCSP!
PS: Union fans again came across as “awefull” prior to the match around me pub, to be frank i do not understand why some people think they could be friends. For me they ain’t.
