working, all along & way too much!

a hard days day – and a perfect song to it:

You’ve had a tough day your boss is making a fuss
He says you’re not made of the right kind of stuff
Your family always begs you to make sense of your life
But you don’t know what to say because nothing seems right

And you wake up every morning in a state of gloom
Your landlord’s knocking at the door
And all your bills are due

But you know that I’ll be right here
Waiting with a beer in my hand
And we’ll make it to the end
And you know that it’ll be alright
‘Cause though the days may be hard, our lives start at night

You’re at a quarter life crisis where everyone wants to say
That though you’re at a crossroads you’ve got to choose a way
And you feel others and the media breathing down your neck
Implying you’re a loser with a wasted life yet

But they just have a different idea of success
They don’t know what it’s like to live for your friends

But you know that I’ll be right here
Waiting with a beer in my hand
And we’ll make it to the end
And you know that it’ll be alright
‘Cause though the days may be hard, our lives start at night

And we’ve got much more than they’ll ever understand
The best of life we hold in our hands
And when they say that your plans aren’t right
Just remember we’ll all be together tonight

But you know that I’ll be right here
Waiting with a beer in my hand
And we’ll make it to the end
And you know that it’ll be alright
‘Cause though the days may be hard, our lives start at night

The Briggs - Come all you Madmen (SideOneDummy Records SD1357-1, 2008)
The Briggs – Come all you Madmen (SideOneDummy Records SD1357-1, 2008)

There is one memory i connect with The Briggs: Many years ago (memory is faint here, must have been early 2000’s) The Briggs did a support stint for Flogging Molly, graceing the old “Grünspan” in Hamburg. Standing upstairs on the small balcony at back of the club i thought it was raining through the roof – only to realise that The Briggs got the masses sweating so much that the vaporing sweat condensed on the not too high ceiling above me … outsch!

The show was great and my lovely wife at the end of the Briggs stagetime pushed a Briggs T-Shirt into my hands :”This is for – you got carried away totaly by The Briggs i noted“. Lovely, i still wear that shirt!

But this is not about memories, this about great records that mean a thing to me.

    The verdict:

1977 – sure thing and quite a different sound to the rest of LA!
published by a cool lable – yes – independent and cool bands on it!
found in a cool shop –  … Burnout, Hamburg!
catching sound – best when slower, best when a wee bit “dramatic”. And produced by a BossTone so must sound great!
The lyrics – clever and well written, dare i say “intelectual street credibility”? Mhhhh?

    Read loud!

Can peace keep this from happening?
    Waging fear we can’t forget
A disease, his words are spreading it
There is no need to argue
Now just do what he says

You must learn to trust no one
Smile as we charge into the sun
And when it’s over we can say
    I saw it on TV

The need, no there’s no stopping it
And you won’t believe your eyes this time
The last message we tried to send
Fell into the wrong hands again
Remember they can make up anything

You must learn to trust no one
Smile as we charge into the sun
And when it’s over we can say
    I saw it on TV

    Let the truth unfold
    We’re waiting for an answer
    This silence is our hymn
Our fists are raised and it’s time
To take back what is mine

You must learn to trust no one
Smile as we charge into the sun
And when it’s over we can say
I saw it on TV, yeah

You must learn to trust no one
Smile as we charge into the sun
And when it’s over we can say
I saw it on TV, yeah

Now listen up, this is the song i realy like most – outstanding hymn!

And there is one more reason to love The Briggs – a St. Pauli scarf in their video!

No Hope For The Kids - Das Reich (Backwards Masking, 2003)
No Hope For The Kids – Das Reich (Backwards Masking, 2003)

7″ are to be at the core – both of any bands oputput and in any record collection. Buying singles was the only item i could afford in the early 70s when i got attracted to mu-sick. Glory old days, when single charts where there. Nevermind, rewind into 2000something, music and punk is still there and from sunny Denmark come “No Hope For The Kids” with a monster 7″ to pleasure us and specificaly all germans!

    The verdict:

    1977 – sure thing!
published by a cool lable – DYI, sure thing!
found in a cool shop –  … mailorder, mmhhh, forgotten from where actualy…tststs
catching sound – Yes – marching integrated and that chorus, splendid! And clocking in  just over a minute – why does a song need to be longer, all said!
The lyrics – simple and to the point!

    Read youself:

    Germany 1943
    Soldiers marching in the streets
No one talks cause who can you trust
Shut your mouth or you'll get busted

    Das Reich!
    Das Reich!

The neighbor is the GESTAPO house
No one sleeps cause they scream so loud
    Germany 1943
    Germany 1943

Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
Who they fight for? Das Reich!
    Das Reich!
