… a surprise blast on a rainy Monday: Wild Mohicans meet greedy record collectors!

It is quite funny: On Friday 14 people tried to fill a place made for 400+, on Monday it was 14 people creating at least a scent of presence upstairs at the Hafenklang. It was Wild Mohicans from Portland who took the stage and gave a blast that should have been noted by a few more.

4 guys from Portland and thus already stamped by some as “…early Poison Idea” which is both kinda nice but also a pain in the ass because 1983 is far gone and whatever bands do today, it is their thing – even for the worst cover band. But their where shy, friendly and kicked off like this:

Now that is a solid slap of punk fucking rock. And from the first chord the guitar had my ear (and eye) actually, that was both speed and some really great play (and that little metalic thingy to give it the edge). I could not make too much of the lyrics but they where presented with anger, force and a strong stare.

They had like 45 minutes and the managed to kill time just like nothing. Full frontal punk and exactly the drive forward that i needed as an uplift for the workweek. I think i sensed that for them, having come all the way from Portland and on something that looked like an DIY tour it must have been a wee bit frustrating with the small turnout but thats the hardship of a rainy Monday evening. As such they finished it off like this:

And that created a little run onto their little merch table, as half of the audience was keen to get their fingers on the vinyl, an LP and an EP. Half of that half was me mates and filthy greedy record collector scum they are they lured them Mohicans to sell versions with a different cover and with coloured vinyl (despite the fact that black vinyl just sound better). For the band sure that was good, as it meant bucks into the pocket.

For those greedy too – i know where these are so just get me a free drink next time and i let you know whom to pester. And whilst the band got rid of the sweat and increased income the rest of the audience went on to play table tennis on the dance floor, a surprise custom for those from away.
