Zum Beispiel w\u00fcnsche ich mir das jeden Monat ein Krimi bei Suhrkamp, Polar, Pulp Master, Rotbuch und Hard Case Crime herauskommt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finde den Fehler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ja, Suhrkamp und Polar liefern zuverl\u00e4ssig. Pulp Master ist da schon schwieriger. Die tolle Rotbuch Krimi Reihe ist quasi verstorben. Und die deutsche Ausgabe von Hard Case Crime (auch bei Rotbuch) ist schlicht und einfach &#8230; verstorben. Ich finde das Schei\u00dfe. ( (c) 2023 gehkacken.de)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Um so gl\u00fccklicher war ich das ich beim \u00f6ffnen dieses Buches im Impressum lass &#8220;Die Originalausgabe erschien 2021 unter dem Titel <em>Five Decembers<\/em> bei Hard Case Crime&#8221;. Yippie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auf dem deutschen Umschlag steht prominent &#8220;Ein Krimi-Epos f\u00fcr die Ewigkeit&#8221; (als Zitat von Dennis Lehane) und &#8220;EDGAR AWARD 2022 f\u00fcr den besten Krimi des Jahres&#8221;. Ne, eigentlich kein Wunder. Hard Case Crime!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Das Buch spielt vor, w\u00e4hrend und nach dem 2ten Weltkrieg in Hawaii, Hongkong und Japan. Und bedient sich eines cleveren Kniffs um sowohl <em>hard-boiled<\/em> Detektive Story als auch Epos zu sein. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detektive Joe McGrady, ex-Army Captain aus dem 1ten Weltkrieg, ist beim Honolulu PD eher gelitten als gemocht. Trotzdem bekommt er quasi am Vorabend des \u00dcberfalls der Japaner auf Perl Harbor einen Fall. Und der entpuppt sich als Sprengbombe: Blutig, grausam und eine Japanerin und der Neffe eines 4-Sterne Admirals sind tot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Und w\u00e4hrend McGrady auf die Spur des m\u00f6glichen M\u00f6rders angesetzt wird und damit Richtung Westen und Hongkong fliegt, dampft die Japanische Flotte gen Osten und Richtung Perl Harbor. Und tritt den Krieg los. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der auch Hongkong erreicht und McGrady, der von seinem Gegner ausman\u00f6vriert wurde, im Polizeigef\u00e4ngnis erwischt. Wo er die &#8220;Befreiung&#8221; durch die Japanische Armee nur \u00fcberlebt. weil er Amerikaner ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tja, wie funktioniert das Detektivspiel als Kriegsgefangener? Ab hier wird aus dem <em>hard-boiled<\/em> Krimi eine ziemlich spannende historische Geschichte mit einem klugen und spannenden Blickwinkel (ich verrate nix).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGrady \u00fcberlebt (aka<em> F\u00fcnf Winter<\/em>) den Krieg in Tokyo, kehrt als totgesagter nach Honolulu zur\u00fcck und l\u00e4sst sich sein aufgelaufenes Gehalt nachzahlen. Und k\u00fcndigt. Und nutzt sein Wissen aus Japan um den alten Fall zu l\u00f6sen. Und das kommt wieder sch\u00f6n <em>hard-boiled<\/em> r\u00fcber, mit allem was dazugeh\u00f6rt (Alkohol, Liebe, Verlust, Gewalt und Verrat). Plus Nazi-Spione. Und und und &#8211; ein perfekter Strauss!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Kestrel hat mit dem Buch quasi ein komplett neues Genre erfunden, super spannend mit ganz viel historischem Bezug. Das Buch ist immer in voller Fahrt, dennoch schafft er es langsame Momente einzupassen, die \u00fcberhaupt nicht st\u00f6ren. Ist das eine <em>Adventure-Noir<\/em>? <em>War-Noir<\/em>? <em>Mystery-Noir<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dazu extrem kenntnisreiche Details, wer aufpasst lernt noch was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ja, das hat was. Zum ganz gro\u00dfen Epos reicht es nicht (dann h\u00e4tte es das Format von Neal Stephensons <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barock-Zyklus\" target=\"_blank\">Baroque Cycle<\/a><\/em> haben m\u00fcssen), aber ich bin ziemlich sicher das ich das auf der Leinwand sehen werde. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Story ist zu gut. Gerade auch weil ohne Happy End.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Was sagt die Welt dazu?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre>\n\"Crisp, vivid writing\u2014not a word is wasted...as satisfying as it is deeply unsettling...Highly recommended.\"\n\n\"One hell of a good story.
